This two-part webinar series looks at Autism as a multifaceted neurodevelopmental condition that requires a comprehensive, layered approach to diagnosis and treatment.
At the behavioral level, autistic individuals may demonstrate differences in communication, sensory processing, social interaction, and emotional regulation, each of which can influence how they learn, respond to demands, and navigate daily environments.
A comprehensive treatment approach must therefore integrate evidence‑based behavioral supports—such as structured routines, visual systems, environmental modifications, and individualized skill‑building strategies—to promote autonomy, reduce barriers, and teach adaptive alternatives that honor the person’s strengths and needs.
In some cases, interdisciplinary teams may also consider the role of medication as part of a broader support plan, not to “treat” autism itself but to address co‑occurring conditions like anxiety, attention differences, or mood dysregulation that may impact learning and participation.
When woven together, these components form a holistic framework that recognizes autism as a complex, dynamic spectrum and ensures that supports are person‑centered, responsive, and grounded in dignity and respect.
Join us on June 11 & 18 as Dr. Susan Scharoun, Professor Emerita at Le Moyne College shares how autism is understood as a complex, dynamic spectrum and why effective support requires a holistic, person‑centered approach. The webinar will cover behavioral characteristics of autism, evidence‑based interventions, environmental and skill‑building supports, and how interdisciplinary strategies—including thoughtful use of medication for co‑occurring conditions—can be integrated to promote autonomy, learning, and quality of life.
