A View Toward the Future: Unlocking Our Potential to Build an Equitable and Inclusive World
Amidst these rough few years, nonprofits have played a vital role in protecting, supporting, and strengthening our community. However, many of us are exhausted by the ongoing barriers and challenges we face in doing this work. What are lessons we can learn? What are hopeful signs that things are improving? What must we let go and do differently moving forward? How do we end the hunger games and walk the talk of equity, diversity, and inclusion? Let's own our awesomeness and unlock our full potential to create the kind of future we want to actualize.
Meet Our Keynote, Vu Le:
Vu’s passion to make the world better, combined with a low score on the Law School Admission Test, drove him into the field of nonprofit work, where he learned that we should take the work seriously, but not ourselves. There’s tons of humor in the nonprofit world, and someone needs to document it. He is going to do that, with the hope that one day, a TV producer will see how cool and interesting our field is and make a show about nonprofit work, featuring attractive actors attending strategic planning meetings and filing 990 tax forms.
Known for his no-BS approach, irreverent sense of humor, and love of unicorns, Vu has been featured in dozens, if not hundreds, of his own blog posts at NonprofitAF.com.
The theme for this year's conference is:
The View from Here...
The theme, while simple, lends itself to individual interpretation. It is a reflection of where we have been the last few years during the pandemic and what it has shown us in order to see the view ahead from here. Maybe the view is muddy, maybe it's beautiful, maybe it's a little cloudy or it's hopeful. Each person's view from here is individual and we are celebrating that during this year's conference.
Calling All Artists! Participate in our virtual art gallery!
The NY Alliance has had a fabulous art show at our annual conference each year exhibiting the artwork of people with disabilities. While we are still struggling with the challenges of the pandemic, we will once again offer the art show virtually including a gallery of all submissions and a video montage of works that best fit the theme of this year's conference. Once again this year, we invite submissions of artwork by people with disabilities and by DSPs and all staff who support them. Including works of art done together by staff and the people they support!
We continue to be interested in works of art that capture the feelings about the impact of COVID-19 on your life and the lives of those around you and on works that reflect your feelings about racism, racist behavior, violence and bullying and around advocacy for people with disabilities, especially as it all relates to The View from Here...
The submitted art can be any art form including paintings, photography, drawings, sculptures, short essays, poems, videos and even songs.
The NY Alliance was thrilled with the submissions last year and as you can see in the graphic above, we have chosen one of the submissions we received for our conference theme. Thank you to everyone that submitted works of art. We can't wait to see your submissions for this year! If you'd like to view last year's virtual art gallery, click here.
To register your artwork, click here.
Deadline for Submission: March 31, 2022
Please note the important details at the top of our artwork registration form outlining the different formats for each submission.
If you'd like to register more than 5 artists, simply submit one form with the first five artists then start a new form for five additional artists. This will be a virtual art show therefore pieces should be registered and uploaded through the registration form. We will not be accepting any pieces in-person.
