DIABETES 360: FULL CIRCLE UNDERSTANDING
OPWDD Approved RN Train-the-Trainer Two-Part Training Offerings

This comprehensive curriculum provides essential information for working with people who have pre-diabetic or diabetic conditions with a focus on those with special needs. The complete 8-hour course is offered via two 4-hour interactive webinars. The Center will hold the Diabetes 360 training course three times per year via GotoWebinar. Each offering of this training will take place from 9:00AM-1:00PM on the dates provided. Participants MUST attend both parts of one training course to receive a Certificate of Attendance and any continuing education credits.

This comprehensive curriculum provides essential information for working with people who have pre­ diabetic or diabetic conditions with a focus on those with special needs. Nurses, social workers, dietitians, family care providers, and other practitioners will gain skills in supporting direct support professionals as well as facilitating independence for individuals diagnosed with diabetes and pre-diabetes.

Course Description: This training is designed to provide RN's and Social Workers with information and resources to support unlicensed direct care staff and other practitioners in the day-to-day care of individuals with developmental disabilities challenged by pre-diabetes or diabetes. Learn how to access resources to support the best possible outcomes. 

Webinar Curriculum will include the following topics:

• diabetes defined
• therapeutic achievable goals
• diagnostic testing for the diagnosis of pre-diabetes
• diabetes (Type 1 & 2)
• meter management/preparedness
• medications
• recognizing and treating hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia
• long/short term complications
• the role of regular physical activity
• meal planning
• labs
• psychosocial aspects of the disease process
• technology advances
• immunizations
• eye/dental and foot care with other helpful tips to include teaching

PART 1: Monday, October 5, 2020 from 9:00AM-1:00PM
PART 2: TMonday, October 12, 2020 from 9:00AM-1:00PM

Cost: $250 per person
Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the two-part training. Participants MUST attend both parts of this training course, complete a pre-test during the registration process and a post-test and evaluation following PART 2 of this training to receive a Certificate of Attendance and any continuing education credits.
