The next meeting of this workgroup will take place on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 10:30AM-2:30PM. Participants are encouraged to join the meeting in-person at the New York Alliance office where lunch will be provided. If you are unable to join in-person, a call-in number will be provided.

About this Work Group:

This long awaited workgroup is forming at a time when many, if not most provider members of the New York Alliance Employment Council are starting anew with the CRS2 ACCES VR contract where “Youth” are a target population.

Simultaneously, OPWDD through Discovery and SEMP Waiver Services is developing a focus on transitional aged WIOA youth. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act specifically asks State’s Labor and VR systems to work to develop services, training and employment opportunities for youth and young adults. NYS OMH consultant Evelyn Frankford has released an article - “To Help Transition Age Youth and Young Adults Succeed, Focus on Their Education" to be shared at the first meeting of this workgroup.

This workgroup is being developed to assist New York Alliance members to meet these expectations, to learn more about school transition, CDOS and other pathways to graduation and how to develop adult services and supports to seamlessly assist the young adult with disabilities to establish a career path towards a self-determined level of economic self-sufficiency.
